A chelate is a complex molecule resulting from a process that bonds a metal to one or more ligand ions or molecules which wrap around the core metal. This gives the mineral a protective shield and improves its bioavailability, metabolism, tolerance and stability. A chelated marine mineral is a chelate produced from raw materials derived from seawater.

The benefits of the chelated form are only effective if the mineral is fully chelated by its ligand, i.e. if the chelation reaction is 100% completed. To ensure complete chelation, the LoMarine® range goes through a three-step validation process to check the bonds between the magnesium and its ligands and the chemical structure of the chelate. Using these three analysis techniques together ensures the magnesium is fully chelated.
Minerals are essential for the human body to function correctly. Magnesium is an essential nutrient that the body does not produce itself, so it’s important to supplement it with magnesium-rich foods. If a deficiency occurs, magnesium can be provided by other sources, such as food supplements or electrolyte drinks. For magnesium to perform its many functions correctly, it needs to be well absorbed and correctly distributed to the various organs.
Chelated forms of magnesium, particularly those containing amino acids such as magnesium bisglycinate, have been shown in the scientific literature to have better absorption, better bioavailability, and better digestive tolerance than conventional inorganic forms. As a result, chelated magnesium produces fewer side-effects.
The different forms of chelated magnesium in the LoMarine® range pass through the digestive tract without being broken down until they reach the intestine, where they are absorbed intact or once the magnesium has separated from the ligand. Several studies have been conducted on the LoMarine® range to confirm the scientific data indicating that chelated forms have better bioavailability.
